Meet the Sculptures from the Recycling Bin!

As part of our work on Sculpture we worked together in groups to create these four fantastic creations.

Say hello to

The Friendly Crocodile

The Dalmatian Dog

Ladybird and her greenfly dinner

The Monster Alien

A House for the Three Bears

We each designed and made a house for the Three Bears to live in.

Here are our finished houses.

Which one do you think the Three Bears would choose?

For the Christmas Fair we made
Christmas Tree Biscuits

And very delicious they were too !!

As part of our science work on living things we made models of animals.  We took a photo of some of the best.  As you can see we made the models out of biscuit dough so that we could eat them afterwards.

Everyone in our class has been working on a self portrait of themselves.  We had to think carefully about what we looked like and also how we wanted others to see us.  Some children chose to paint themselves outside in the garden.  Some children painted themselves with their favourite toy or playing their favourite game..

(You can click on each portrait to make it bigger)

YEAR 6

WELCOME TO YEAR 6

This is a very important year for year 6 children as it is their last year at Clifton Green Primary School and they will be preparing to go on to their secondary schools.  The children will be encouraged to take on more responsibilities for themselves, for instance ensuring they have their PE kit in school for games, to learn their tables and so on.  Along side this the children will be participating in activities within school, these will include serving tea and talking to the senior citizens who come to our harvest festival, showing visitors around school and showing responsibility towards the younger children in school.

Parents are encouraged to support their children within school.  This includes encouraging them to complete and hand their homework in on time, to learn their tables and listen to them read.

TIMETABLE FOR ACTIVITIES

Swimming                   Wednesday afternoon             £2

Half of the class will be swimming this term (letters have already been sent home for those children) and the rest of the children will be swimming in the summer term.

Earrings must be removed by the pupil for safety reasons.

PE                               PE may be indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather conditions.  Mr Reed encourages the children to take responsibility for ensuring they have their PE kit in school.  The PE kit should include a pair of shorts and a T-shirt plus a pair of plimsolls/outdoor training shoes.

Earrings will have to be removed by the pupil during this lesson for safety reasons.

The PE lesson will be on a Monday afternoon.

Homework                 The children will receive literacy homework on a Friday to be handed in on Monday morning and numeracy homework will be on a Monday to be handed in on Wednesday morning.

This should take them one hour to complete and should be returned to school for marking.  This is very important for the children to do as it indicates to Mr Reed whether the children have understood the past week’s lessons and enable him to flag up with any children who have misunderstood any aspect of a lesson.

Tables                        It is very important for the children to learn their tables.  This will help them with all aspects of their numeracy work.  Those children who do not know their tables find the lessons a lot harder and so it is in their interests to learn their tables to make their numeracy lessons easier.

Spellings                   The children will receive 10 spellings on a Monday morning to learn during the week for a spelling test on Friday.  Parents are encouraged to support their children at home with their spellings by encouraging them to learn them and testing them at home.

Visit to National Rail Museum

Maths Day at the Railway Museum

A visit to the Railway Museum was not only to look at trains. Year 6 had been invited to take part in a Maths Day which took place among the railway exhibits that the museum is famous for.

We had a go at printing symmetrical patterns and worked with Proffessor Funumber who set us various mathematical challenges. We had to design a garden using various sized paving slabs and work out the cost. It was very expensive!

One group had a go at riding a pretend horse to find out about weights. To finish with we had to complete a maths trail around the museum, measuring some of the locomotives wheels and how long carriages were.

We had a great day…not only looking round the National railway Museum but also taking part in some numeracy activities as well!

Magnificent 2007 Easter entry .....
