CLIFTON GREEN
PRIMARY SCHOOL

Welcome to Year 6

This is a very important year for year 6 children as it is their last year at Clifton Green Primary School and they will be preparing to go on to their secondary schools.  The children will be encouraged to take on more responsibilities for themselves, for instance ensuring they have their PE kit in school for games, to learn their tables and so on.  Along side this the children will be participating in activities within school, these will include serving tea and talking to the senior citizens who come to our harvest festival, showing visitors around school and showing responsibility towards the younger children in school.

Parents are encouraged to support their children within school.  This includes encouraging them to complete and hand their homework in on time, to learn their tables and listen to them read.

Swimming               Wednesday afternoon                 £2

Half of the class will be swimming this term (letters have already been sent home for those children) and the rest of the children will be swimming in the summer term.

Earrings must be removed by the pupil for safety reasons.

PE                         PE may be indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather conditions.  Mr Reed and Mr Binns encourages the children to take responsibility for ensuring they have their PE kit in school.  The PE kit should include a pair of black shorts and a white T-shirt plus a pair of plimsolls/outdoor training shoes.

Earrings will have to be removed by the pupil during this lesson for safety reasons.

The PE lesson will be on a Monday afternoon.

Homework             The children will receive literacy homework on a Friday to be handed in on Monday morning and numeracy homework will be on a Monday to be handed in on Wednesday morning. This should take them one hour to complete and should be returned to school for marking.  This is very important for the children to do as it indicates to Mr Reed and Mr Binns whether the children have understood the past week’s lessons and enable him to flag up with any children who have misunderstood any aspect of a lesson.

Tables                   It is very important for the children to learn their tables.  This will help them with all aspects of their numeracy work.  Those children who do not know their tables find the lessons a lot harder and so it is in their interests to learn their tables to make their numeracy lessons easier.
