Homestead Park June 2010

The Clifton Burton Early Years Partnership
Fun Day at Homestead Park

We joined other Early Years Settings from the Clifton and Burton area for a great big community Fun Day at Homestead Park organised by the Clifton and Burton Early Years Partnership. Children, parents and carers all met together to enjoy the many activities on offer to have lots of fun!

The Clifton and Burton Early Years Partnership, of which Clifton Green Foundation Stage is a member, meets regularly to share information, ideas, planning and resources to benefit the Early Years children in our community. Our event was held at Homestead Park. The Joseph Rowntree Trust kindly allowed us to use the park to stage the event. They also gave a cash donation to buy sand for children and adults to play with.  Clifton Tesco Supermarket donated cash to purchase fruit juice for us all to drink.

As you can see from the photos the day was a great success.

Look at all the things we got up to…………

Story telling, exploring toy bus activities, playing in the sand, exploring musical instruments, dressing up, touring the pond, blowing bubbles, playing lots of exciting games with the York Play Team, talking to and dressing up as the Community Police and cycling with Cycle City York.

What Fun!!

A Visit to the Foundation Stage from some unusual creatures. (

Sam Safaris visited the Foundation Stage this week(W/e 21May 2010). She brought lots of different animals for us to see and learn about.  We found out where they come from, the food each animal eats and when and where they like to sleep. Then we all had the chance to touch or hold each animal. All the children did really well at being extra quiet, so as not to scare our visitors, and at asking some clever questions. Well done FS 1 and 2.

During Sam’s visit we found out that frogs like to eat beetles. This inspired the FS 1 children to make some lovely beetle biscuits. Delicious!

Information Update.

The Early Years Partnership Fun Day at Homestead Park.

This event will take place on Thursday 24th June from 10.00am until 2.00pm. It promises to be a great day for children and parents alike, with lots of exciting activities going on. Bring a picnic and enjoy!

Letters about this event have already been sent out. Please ask if you have not received one. NB FS 1 will be closed on this day for staff to attend the event.

We are all due to take part in the ‘Big Toddle’ again this year. All the children in FS 1 and 2 toddle twice round the school field and raise money for Banardos and FS funds. It has been a great success in the past. Sponsor forms and more information will follow shortly. Thank you.

Our topic for Summer Term 2010 term is Minibeast Safari.

This is a great topic and we are looking forward to finding out all about different creepy crawlies and the places they like to live. We have already kindly been lent a Giant African Land Snail called ‘Rose’ for the children to watch and learn about. We hope to have other visitors arriving shortly such as caterpillars and tadpoles.

We have also planned another visit from ‘Sam Safaris’ who brings in all sorts of different creatures for the children to look at and hold (if they wish to). Sam tells the children about the animals in a fun and interesting way and has been a great success in the past.

Other events taking place this term will include our Fun Day, which looks to be fantastic! This year it will take place at Homestead Park and will be a family and community occasion. It is taking place on Thursday 24th June between 10am and 2pm. On offer will be a range of fun activities including bikes from ‘Cycle City York’, the Play Team, the Toy Bus, planting, story telling, the library, sand play, musical instruments, bubbles, tours around the pond, a ‘treasure hunt’, the Community Police and much, much more!  Bring a picnic and enjoy the fun!

We will also be taking part in ‘The Barnardos great Toddle’ again. The children will ‘toddle’ twice around the school field and then return for a ‘Teddy Bears picnic’.

This is a sponsored event and we aim to raise money not only for our own Foundation Stage but also for the children that Barnardos care for.

Please don’t forget that once the hot weather arrives (and we’re sure it will) your child will need a sun hat and to have sun cream applied before attending school.
