Year 1

Reception Summer term update

Our topic this term will be At the Seaside. We shall be covering the following mini- topics – uses of water, seaside creatures, summer clothes and how to protect ourselves from the sun, materials including natural and man made and seaside toys. We shall have a summer carnival week with an entertainer at the end of the term. Our role play areas will include a seaside with real sand, a seaside shop and a camp site. We are looking forward to lots of learning through lots of fun!

Welcome to all the new children in the Reception class! Your teacher is Mrs Illing and your Teaching Assistant is Mrs Middleton. This term we are going to be learning through a topic called Ourselves. We shall be thinking about our families, our homes and our school, our bodies and our senses. We shall be celebrating Harvest, Divali and Christmas.

It would be really helpful if the children could bring in a photo of themselves as a baby or toddler for a ‘My history’ display.

PE will be with Mrs Dennison on Tuesdays and Library will be on Wednesdays.

We have recently had a visit from our ‘Reading helper mum’ with her baby. It was a very informative demonstration of feeding, changing and caring for a baby. The children asked questions and were able to ‘hold’ the baby.
The baby also played us a tune on her rattle! She was really well behaved and smiled and gurgled through the visit.
Our ‘Reading helper mum’ also gave us plenty of useful items to help in our baby role play area.
