Toys From The Past

Year one finds out about toys from the past!

Children in Year One travelled back in time with Lucy and experienced learning about toys from the past.

Lucy invited children to feel a toy from inside her toy case and guess what toy it might be. Children looked at toys from fifty, one hundred and fifty and five hundred years ago.

The most exciting part of the afternoon was when children experienced playing with all the toys!

Can you see a hoola hoop? A cup and ball? Skittles? Masks?

Mice

Children in Miss Wilkinson’s Class have been reading and writing poetry over the past couple of weeks.

This week the children learnt the poem ‘Mice’ By Rose Fyleman. They created actions to go with each verse and wore mice masks to make the performance more effective. Everyone in the good work assembly enjoyed watching the performance…….. Do you think mice are really nice?

I think mice are really nice.

Their tails are long,

Their faces small.

They haven’t any chins at all!

Their ears are pink

Their teeth are white,

They run about the house at night!

They nibble things they shouldn’t touch,

And no one seems to like them much…

But I think mice are nice!

Year 1 had a wonderful afternoon at the Yorkshire Museum at a “Making Faces” workshop in November.

We spent time looking at different faces from around the museum, they were made from lots of different materials and one was more that 2000 years old! Some were very heavy.

We thought about how our faces look when we are happy or sad and read an action poem together.

We made faces on paper plates using lots of different materials, each plate had an interesting expression on it.
