Toys from the Past

On Tuesday 11th March we had a visitor called Lucy in school. She came to show and tell us all about different toys through out history.

After she had introduced us to her favourite toy – Mr Banana in Pyjama’s Man, she took us back in history 50 yrs to see what children would be playing with at that time.

Next we journeyed back another 100 yrs to see what children would have been playing with 150 yrs ago in Victorian times.

After that we got to see what children would have been playing with about 500 yrs ago!

Finally, we had the best bit of the morning……..we got to play with all of the toys! Of course we were very careful with them as we realised some were so old they could never be replaced.

We had GREAT fun! Thanks to Lucy for showing us and letting us share all her toys!

Book Day Celebrations

As part of our book day celebrations our class had a visit from the author Mij Kelly.
She read to us from her children’s books and talked about writing.
Then she showed us how we could set about writing a book ourselves and she worked with us while we had a go.

Our thanks go to Mij Kelly and you can find more about her on her website......

“LEAVES”

One of our art topics this year has been Mother Nature Designer.
We studied leaves; looking at their shapes and the vein lines they have on them as well as their colours and texture.

We used felt and hessian and a variety of joining techniques to produce our leaves. We decorated them with stitching and sequins.

In science we have been looking at different types of materials.

There was a large selection of things to look at all made out of different materials.

Click on the pictures below to see all the detail....

“Fruit Faces”

As part of out DT project this term we had to design and make a “Fruit Face” that would encourage children to eat more fruit at a children’s party.

First, we spent time looking at, drew and tried several different fruit and vegetables.

Then we experimented with how the different fruits and vegetables could be cut, sliced or grated to produce different effects.

After that we planned our fruit face using criteria.

e.g. Has to be nice and juicy.

Has to have more than 2 different types of fruit.

Must look like a vampire

Or

Has to be colourful and yummy to eat.

We kept our plans in front of us as we made our faces.

Here are some of the final products……..

(Oh, by the way, we took them home and can assure you, they were YUMMY!!)
